Difference Between Full Course or Regular, Honors, Advanced Placement or AP, Dual Credit, Credit Recovery, and Pre-Test Courses

Full Course or Regular:  Full Course or Regular courses are standard courses. These courses are excellent for students who need to complete a course, but are not interested in more advanced options. Students taking full courses or regular courses will spend an estimated 5-6 hours per week to complete the course (based on traditional course schedules).

Honors Courses: Honors courses are regular courses that have an honors track that requires a higher level of critical thinking. Honors courses offer additional assignments, beyond the regular assignments, that are more difficult in nature to challenge exceptional students. Some Honors courses will offer just a few additional assignments, some will offer as many as 30 additional assignments for the student to complete. Students taking honor courses will spend an estimated 6-7 hours per week to complete the course (based on a traditional course schedule). If students use a Sevenstar instructor and qualify for a Sevenstar transcript, the honors course will be weighted an additional 0.5 quality points. For example, an A will be 4.5 quality points instead of 4.0.

Advanced Placement or AP Courses: AP courses are courses certified by the College Board. These courses are designed to challenge even the most advanced students. AP courses can vary in work and time commitment. If students use a Sevenstar instructor and qualify for a Sevenstar transcript, the AP course will be weighted an additional 1.0 quality points. For example, an A will be 5.0 quality points instead of 4.0.

Dual Credit Courses:  Dual credit courses are offered by partner institutions. Dual credit courses all students to receive both high school and college credit. Dual Credit courses will vary in requirements based on subject matter and institutions. Dual credit courses will be weighted an additional 1.0 quality points on a Sevenstar transcript. For example, an A will be 5.0 quality points instead of 4.0

Credit Recovery Courses: Credit recovery course are designed for students to recover credit for courses they previously failed. Credit Recovery students tend to need more attention in their environment while completing the course. Students are able to determine areas they need to master through a testing process. Students will only have to complete portions of the course that they haven’t yet mastered. It is recommended that students achieve at least a score of 50% on their original course if they plan to take the Credit Recovery Course. 

Pre-Test or Placement Test: Pre-test courses are designed to assess if students are ready to begin a certain level of a course. Pre-Test courses are offered in foreign language and math. Students must complete the pre-test within 14 days of their enrollment start date. Students will receive a score and a recommendation based on their testing results.
