How do students take their proctored exams?

(ACADEMY)

Each semester exam has an exam password. Guardians are automatically designated as the proctor for their students (unless the school that families have regsitered under has designated someone else to proctor semester exams) and will receive the exam password from the course instructor through a message in the portal when it is time to take the exam. Usually students complete a Discussion Based Assessment (DBA) or phone conference prior to taking the semester exam. This is when the instructor knows that the student is ready to complete the exam and will send out the exam password. Proctors and students may also request the password by sending a message to the instructor through the portal. The password will be sent to the proctor on file for the student. A password will not be sent to a student and exam passwords should not be shared with students at any time.

Here are some important things to know about semester exams:

Exam Sections
Some semester exams are divided into multiple sections. For example, a semester exam could have a Part A, Part B, and Part C. Each section will have a unique password. Please be sure that your student completes all sections of the exam to earn credit. They do not need to complete all sections in one sitting. They may take breaks between each section. Each section can be completed at different times and on different dates as needed but must be completed in order. You may discuss these options with the course instructor.

No Time Limit
There is no exam time limit on any quiz or semester exam. This allows students to take a small break while logged into an exam as needed; however, it is recommend that students do not leave their device unattended for a long period of time. As long as students are continuously working in their exam, it will remain open.

Use of WiFi during Exam
It is recommend that students use a direct connection to the internt (and not the use of WiFi connection) before starting an exam.  It is also suggested that students should not leave their device unattended for a long period of time once any exam has begun.  It is possible that the wifi can briefly lose connection, or the device can go to sleep which will cause the quiz or exam to close.  Additionally, My Course Portal auto-logs out after a couple of hours for inactivity as a safety protocol which will also log students out of Buzz and if they are working on an exam it will close.

Submit All  Assignments Before Opening Semester Exam
Students need to submit all assignments for the semester as listed in the gradebook before opening up the semester exam. Any assignment that has not been submitted will receive a zero grade. Once any portion of the semester exam has been taken, students are not permitted to go back and complete unfinished work in the semester. Please discuss any questions or concerns with the course instructor prior to beginning the semester exam.

Technical  Issues During an Exam
If there are any technical issues during the exam, please submit a ticket immediately to document the problem. Please take screenshots if possible so that our team can help troubleshoot the issue and the academic team can offer an exam retry as needed.
